If you want to install an aftermarket in dash stereo receiver in your 1st generation Acura RDX covering years 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012, this radio installation kit is complete with everything you will need, and it is the only kit that keeps your climate information on the factory display. This kit does not include a radio.
Keep your climate display
On the RDX the factory radio drives the display at the top of the dash. Remove the radio and the climate information disappears: you can still adjust the climate, but you can no longer see the temperature, fan speed or mode. Our climate box decodes the climate information and drives the factory display itself, so with the factory radio gone your climate information stays exactly where it was. The section of the display that used to show radio information stays blank, because only the factory radio can show there. Your radio information shows on your new radio.
What’s in the kit
- Custom wiring harness, pre-wired for the radio brand you select, so the installation is plug and play with no splicing or wire tapping.
- Dash kit that mounts a single DIN radio in the factory radio location using the 4 factory brackets.
- Climate box with a T-harness that keeps the climate information on the factory display.
- AXSWC steering wheel control interface so your steering wheel controls work your new radio. Volume, track and mode program automatically.
- Optional call control buttons (+$20): select Yes and we pre-wire the HFL connection so you keep the steering wheel call buttons. They need manual programming of the AXSWC, which we show in a separate video. You can add this later, but the radio has to come back out, so it is easier to choose it at checkout.
What radio do I need?
Almost any single DIN radio works, as long as it has 5 or 6 RCA outputs (front, rear and subwoofer pre-outs, not inputs) and the standard side mounting holes. Really short or small radios and sleeve-only radios will not work with this kit. Select your radio brand above so we wire the harness for it. A parking bypass is highly recommended with your order if your radio brand is Pioneer, Kenwood or Alpine. You can learn more about the bypass and add one to your cart using this link.
Premium audio or Tech package?
Premium audio (Factory Navigation: No): our harness feeds a low-level RCA signal from your new radio to the factory amplifier, so your front door speakers and tweeters, rear door speakers and factory subwoofer all keep working. Please verify your factory amplifier is working and you are not having volume issues before replacing the factory radio. Volume issues are most often caused by the factory amplifier.
Tech package with ELS (Factory Navigation: Yes): the tech package kit includes the additional part needed for the ELS system and navigation-equipped RDX. A tech package install video is coming soon.
Installation
About 1 hour if you have done this before and about 2 hours for your first time. Tools: 10 mm socket with ratchet and extension, plastic pry tool, Phillips screwdriver (magnetic tip recommended) and a magnetic pickup tool. Disconnect the negative battery terminal before you start and have your radio code on hand in case you ever need to reinstall the factory radio. Good to know
- The climate box runs on accessory power only, so it does not drain your battery when the car is off.
- Everything is plug and play and fully reversible if you ever sell the car or want to go back to the factory radio.
